This is my final week at Chisnallwood and obviously I have mixed feelings. The new teacher Mrs Heather-Maree Allen will be spending a few days in the classroom observing the students. Then on Friday the students and I will have our final day together and enjoy a shared lunch.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all families for the help and support they have given to myself and the class this year. I know all students will continue to succeed throughout the rest of the year. Kind regards Liz Eddington

Congratulations to Cameron Mantell for winning the year 8 school oral poetry competition.

Next week is my penultimate week before I wave a final farewell to my (almost) 20 years at Chisnallwood. The class are working hard to finish their sustainability projects and then we will be undertaking a mini unit on The Future. This should be interesting for the students as we look at some predictions made last century!
A big congratulations to all students for their wearable art homework projects. The winners were - 1st Connor McLaughlin, 2nd Anabel Bramley and Sarah Powley and 3rd equal Danielle Hinman, Matt Burgess and Jack Costello.Class 425.JPGClass 442.JPG Class 384.JPG Class 424.JPG Class 408.JPG
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control Miss Kingham has had to call her practice short and the students are back with me as their teacher. We are currently investigating a chosen sustainability issue and this will continue for the next couple of weeks.

I am offering 10 minutes interviews in week 10, to parents who have an issue or concern with their child. Three way interviews will continue next term with the new teacher. Please email me your concern beforehand to enable me to have all data etc available for you.

The oral poetry presentations are happening this week in the ,then the team year 8 final one will take place next Monday. The school finals are in week 9.

The time is really running by quickly this term! No doubt decisions are being made about high schools etc. please be aware that I do not have any information about gifted programmes at high school, therefore am not a fountain of knowledge unfortunately! We have welcomed Miss Amy Kingham, trainee teacher to our class in the last 4 weeks and she is now in full control and giving some interesting lessons.
It is time for science fair projects. The students will be doing as much as possible in class time re written work but experiments and analysis etc will need to be done at home. There will be no room for time extensions! There are some very interesting topics happening !
Ten of our students have attended a poetry writer's workshop the last two days and the tutor told me they were the best he has had! Congratulations to those students, I look forward to seeing your poems. The best of these will be displayed at Linwood Library during National Poetry Week.

Hi Everyone, I hope you are enjoying the last few days of the holidays.
A reminder to 10 students that they have writers workshops the first 2 days of term. Come to class first.
All others to bring PE gear.
However... I am planning our cantamath class project for this term and have come up with some ideas. One of them involves taking a photo of each student dressed in clothing that they would wear during a 'math activity' in real life e.g. sport, music, shopping, using a cellphone etc. This photo would be used as part of the project and would be put together in a class set. Only people attending Cantamath would see the project/photos. Would anyone object to this happening with their child if I did use this idea? I probably will need to send out a permission slip later in the term but I just want to gauge your feelings as it will take quite a bit of planning and work.

The integrated topic for this term is 'sustainability' and we will looking at many contexts involving this.
I am also planning for students to make a movie (hopefully this will eventuate) for a sustainability competition.

The term has gone really quickly and we are already a quarter of the way through year 8!! Please enjoy the holidays and have a good rest. Students should be thinking about a topic for their science fair investigation and finish reading their fantasy book. See you next term!

Enjoy your Easter break!!

What a fabulous camp we had! Check out the photos to see how much fun we all had.

There is only one week left before camp! If you have any special worries please contact me asap! Parent helpers should search their child's bag for the booklet I sent home yesterday. Just a reminder that all students sleeping in tents will need a sleeping pad etc underneath them.
Access to your child's learning journal is through Google Sites - your child can show you how tto access this and have a look at what they are up to at school!

A huge thank you to all parents who came to meet me on Wednesday. I hope you learned something about the gifted child!

Students - I have put photos of your identity shields and masks on Google Classroom. I am not sure if this method is going to work but would be grateful if someone tried it and let me know. Follow the instructions.

Don't forget the Meet the Teacher evening THIS Wednesday (17th) at 7pm in room 1. A reminder that this is not the time to talk about individual students, it is just a quick 30 minutes introduction to me, the classroom and our programme.

Students are asked to bring in a variety of smallish things to glue to a mask that will reflect their unique identity. This can be photos, small ornaments, toys, ribbons etc etc. It will be a 3D mask. Please have this by Tuesday.

Welcome to 2016 to all students and families. I am really looking forward to my new class and I know that we will have lots of fun learning this year.

Our first focus is 'Identity' and we will start with our ancestors, then ourselves, then Christchurch and finally New Zealand and its Pacific neighbours. We will be looking at lots of exciting subtopics and a lot will be self chosen by the students themselves, based on their particular interests.

For your benefit the first homework requirements are now outlined on the homework page (to the left). As always this will be directly related to our classroom programme. Each week there will be spelling, reading and a special task. Students should work for 1/2 hour five times a week and this can be done whenever it suits them outside of school timetable. NO STRESS! Please email me immediately re any problems or queries etc.
Please note your child does NOT need to have ready the biography before coming to school - just bring it on the day please.
